The Basics of Jailbreaking

Welcome To iPodTouchHax.com!

If you've ever thought that your iDevice could do so much more than what Apple lets it do, this is the site for you!

Most people who own iDevices are oblivious to the wonderful world of jailbreaking.

Jailbreaking, in simple terms, is using an application on your computer to modify a few files on your iPod. Once these files are modified you can install custom themes, tweaks, and many more things.

What Are the Pros and Cons of Jailbreaking?

The Many, Many Pros

  • You can install custom themes to enhance the look and feel of your iPod
  • You can edit things such as your Lockscreen, Dock, and Springboard for looks and enhanced usability
  • You will be able to lock certain apps and not lock others to keep your settings and what-not private
  • You can get custom keyboards
  • You can load apps into the background and switch between open apps
  • You can, with a little work, download apps that you usually have to pay for
  • You will still be able to update apps you already have and download apps from the app store
  • You can show it off to all of your friends!
  • And a LOT more

And The Few Cons

  • There is always a chance that something goes wrong and you lose your jailbreak (you can still restore your iPod and get everything back)
  • Some people tend to freak out when they find out you have a jailbroken iPod. If this is the case, it's usually because they don't know what a device being jailbroken actually means and they automatically think it's something bad or illegal.
  • If you go past the usual jailbreak and proceed to install cracked apps, you are violating copyright, which is a crime. The common jailbreaker shouldn't have to worry about this though since you can't just accidently install cracked apps, you actually have to do some work.
